Dear Suubi Friend 

I am writing to share the story of Patricia and Robina, two young girls whose lives reflect the harsh reality faced by many vulnerable children in our community.

While visiting a school to follow up on the progress of our Suubi children, a teacher asked if we could also help another bright student—Patricia. She is a very clever girl with a strong desire to learn, but her grandmother, who cares for her, is unable to afford school fees. As we always do, we decided to visit the family to understand the situation firsthand.

What we found was heartbreaking.

Patricia, and her cousin Robina live with their elderly grandmother in a single rented room. The family survives by working in other people’s gardens just to earn food and pay rent. Meals are uncertain, and poverty defines every part of their daily life.

When we finally met Patricia, she was crying uncontrollably. As we spoke, we noticed Patricia was shivering badly. We rushed her to a clinic, where she was diagnosed with acute malaria. Without immediate treatment, her life was at serious risk. We covered the cost of her medical care, and she was stabilized.

Their living conditions were equally alarming. The children slept on the floor without mattresses, in a poorly sealed room infested with insects and rats. Even chickens shared the same space at night. The environment was unsafe and unhealthy.

The following day—on Christmas Eve— I returned with my  family to help. We cleaned the room, sealed holes in the floor, and bought mattresses so the children could finally sleep safely. There was even no sign of a  Christmas meal in the home that night, but there was relief, dignity, and hope.

This is why we are reaching out.

Patricia and Robina urgently need:

• School fees and scholastic materials

• Ongoing medical support

• Basic needs such as food, and safe housing

• Long-term sponsorship to ensure they stay in school
